Since its founding, the United States has blossomed as home to people of many different cultures and ethnicities. Although there are different traditions or ways of doing things, there is one thing all have in common: FOOD! In fact, we can see across all cultures that eating is most always present at celebrations and other events which bring people together. Much like America, our menu here at Truxton’s American Bistro is quite diverse and features delicious plates from all over the world. So we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our most loved dishes and pay homage to the beautiful countries that inspired them!
A quick look at our menu and it is very apparent that we love Mexican food here at Truxton’s. Our Chicken Tinga is without a doubt one of our most loved dishes and is so good that we just had to offer it in two forms! Chicken Tinga is a traditional Mexican dish that originated in the city of Puebla and is made by cooking shredded chicken in a “tinga ” or stew that is made up of tomatoes, onion and chipotles in adobo. You can then enjoy it on its own, wrapped in a tortilla as a taco, or on a bed of basmati rice with additional fixings.
Up next, our mouth watering dishes inspired by the country of India! When many of us think of Indian food, we instantly think of one thing: curry. “Curry” comes from the Tamil word “kari” which means “sauce”. With curry simply referring to something being cooked in a sauce, it makes sense why there are thousands of different curries from all around the world that are made up of the available and popular spices in that area. In India, the staple spices that are often found in many of their curries are: asafetida, cumin, black mustard seeds, turmeric, kashmiri red chili powder, coriander, and garam masala. Despite all the curries that exist, Indian curries continue to be some of the most popular in the world, with chicken tikka masala, Dhansk, and chicken coconut curry being at the top of the list. Here at Truxton’s our Mumbai Shrimp Wrap features our curry shrimp, basmati rice, cilantro, various veggies wrapped up in a warm tortilla. Likewise, our New Delhi Curry Bowl features sauteed chicken simmered in a spicy coconut yellow curry sauce and served on a bed of basmati rice with fresh cilantro and a variety of vegetables.
Being located in a diverse city like Los Angeles, rich with so many different cultures, it only seemed fitting that our menu reflects and celebrates the city we have the privilege of serving! So next time you find yourself stuck trying to decide if you want Indian, Mexican, Italian, Hawaiian, or just a good ol’ cheeseburger, we have you covered. Afterall, at Truxton’s American Bistro, the flavors of the world are literally at your fingertips!
